Russia opens criminal cases against six Ukraine’s Armed Forces commanders

Investigation Committee claims that, according to the investigation, the military broke international laws that ensure respect and protection of the rights of the civilian population

Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation imposed criminal cases against the six commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They are accused of allegedly "shelling of civilian infrastructure and population in the south-east of Ukraine." This is said in a statement on the website of the Committee.

Investigators also posted the names of those accused. The commander of the 57th separate motorized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Colonel Sergiy Sirchenko, commander of the 17th separate motorized battalion of the 57th separate motorized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Shcherbinin, commander of the 10th separate mountain-assault brigade of the Armed forces of Ukraine Lieutenant Colonel Vasilije Zubaniche, commander of the 55th separate artillery brigade of the Armed forces of Ukraine Colonel Sergei Brusove, commander of the 30th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed forces of Ukraine Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Garaze, commander of the artillery battalion of the 30th mechanized brigade Major Sergey Martsenyuk are accused of a crime under part 1 of article 356 of the Criminal Code on use of prohibited means and methods of warfare", reads the report.

Russia states that, according to the investigation, the military broke international laws that ensure respect and protection of the rights of civilians.

"Currently ongoing investigative actions and operational-search measures are aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the crime", notes the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation.
