Russia and European Commission discussed possibility to supply gas to Ukraine

Russian Energy Minister ensured the additional supplies to Ukraine can be provided only after Russia receives payment from Ukraine

The Russian Minister of Energy Aleksander Novak discussed the possibility to supply 1.4 – 5 billion cubic meters of gas to Ukraine with the Vice-President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic. This was announced by the Energy Minister, reported by Interfax-AGI.

Novak ensured the additional supplies to Ukraine can be provided only after Russia receives payment from Ukraine.

According to him, Russian Energy Minister provided the EC with the information on the Russian gas price efficiency for Ukraine and the losses of Ukraine due to buying gas from other vendors. He also noted that the current price by the Gazprom for Ukraine is much lower than the spot prices for Europe

Novak also expressed his confidence that Kyiv has money to purchase the gas from Russia.

The Vice-President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic added that they are “finalizing their cooperation with the World Bank to get the money for Ukraine to purchase gas.”
