Ukraine and the United States opposed the draft resolution on ‘fighting the glorification of Nazism’. It was developed by Russia – with assistance of another 54 countries – at the UN General Assembly session, AP reported.

131 countries, including Belarus, Venezuela, India, Israel, Kazakhstan, China and Syria, voted ‘for’. 48 countries, mostly EU members, abstained.

The U.S. representative in the UN Assembly General explained that Washington cannot support the resolution against the glorification of the Nazi regime, as the bill is politically motivated and contravenes the basic principles of freedom of speech.

The document’s authors say that the resolution also offers combating the modern forms of discrimination, xenophobia and racism.
