Administration of US President Barack Obama is preparing for the introduction of new sanctions against the Russian Federation. Washington Post reports this, citing its sources in the White House.

According to the American edition, these measures are caused by the intervention of Russian hackers in the presidential elections held this year.

"They would include economic sanctions and diplomatic condemnation," says Washington Post.

The sanctions will be the completion of last year's debate on the application of the decree, allowing the US to expand the powers of the president to respond to cyber-attacks from abroad, committed to the objects of "critical infrastructure."

However, at the moment the electronic electoral system does not apply to those, and, according to the publication, in order to apply this decree, it must be attributed to the objects of "critical infrastructure".
