US Ambassador to Russia John Tefft predicts that the new US president and his administration will try to make progress in their relations with Russia on the issues of Ukraine and Syria, reports "Interfax".

"If you look at US-Russian and US-Soviet relations in the broadest sense, then you will see that there prevails the sequence of political line. We have a significant contradictions on Ukraine and Syria and other issues, but I think the new administration will try to take forward these issues and find a solution to it, "- Tefft said, talking with reporters.

He said that he hopes that Russia "will also be ready for it."

"I'm not saying that we will have some sort of a reboot, but will attempt to solve the most important problems of national security" - said the US ambassador.
