US President-elect Donald Trump supports eventual disintegration of the European Union, which may occur after the withdrawal of the UK from the EU. This was stated by the current US ambassador to the EU, Anthony Gardner, reports Telegraph.

Thus Gardner called Brexit support "the height of stupidity."

"It would be absolute nonsense tp think that by supporting the division of Europe, we will be able to act in our own interests", he said.

"Being ardent supporters of Brexit - this is the height of stupidity for us," said Gardner.

Let us remind that during his election campaign, Trump welcomed the results of the British referendum on withdrawal from the EU. He said that voting for a Brexit, Britons regained control of their own country.

Earlier US President-elect Donald Trump said he would prefer keeping intact sanctions against Russia "at least for a period of time".
