Ukraine calls on UN Member States to increase pressure on Russia in connection with the latest malicious violation of human rights. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry announced this in the official statement.

"We call on UN Member States to take further consolidated steps to increase pressure on the Russian Federation due to the willful violation of its key provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading treatment or punishment, the Convention on the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, the European Convention for the Prevention of torture", reads the statement.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Russia systematically denies Ukrainian consul to visit Ukrainian political prisoners, applies unlawful methods of interrogation, torture, methods of psychological pressure in respect of the detained Ukrainians.

"In recent years, the special aggravation acquired situation of the citizens of Ukraine, who fraudulently have been involved in illegal schemes on distribution of drugs in the territory of the Russian Federation. This year in Russia for committing crimes in the sphere of drug trafficking were sentenced nearly a thousand of our compatriots, which most of the criminal cases are based on fabricated materials", stated in the department.

Foreign Ministry expresses the concern of the Russian Federation in connection with the ongoing repression, illegal detentions, searches and seizures, as well as torture and ill-treatment of citizens of Ukraine.
