U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg held a phone conversation, during which they discussed ways to solve the Donbas crisis peacefully. Bloomberg reported that with the reference to the White House’s press service.
Trump expressed his decisive support for NATO but reiterated that the Alliance members should ‘pay more’ for protection.
The sides agreed to extend close cooperation to solve the current security issues that the Alliance faces now. Trump also agreed to join the summit of NATO leaders, slated for late May.
Previously, the U.S. leader held another phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko, assuring the latter of the U.S. support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Trump also said the U.S. was ready to assist Ukraine in peaceful re-taking control over the state border with Russia.
