Valeriy Rashkin, Russian MP from the Communist Party faction, called aggressive Russian fans ‘roughnecks’. The lawmaker recalled that the very movement of football hooligans emerged after the fall of the Soviet Union, while in the Soviet times, football games occurred ‘in a civilized manner’.

‘Glorification of such roughnecks inflicts damage on the state security; it makes the young generation perceive anti-social habits, promoting racism and xenophobia’, Rashkin said.
