Frankfurter Allgemeine

The sanctions against Russia are useless and Russia will never return Crimea. The leader of the right-wings populist party Alternative for Germany (AfG) Alexander Gauland claimed this to Deutsche Welle.

‘Russia will never return Crimea. I do not think that the sanctions can influence anything’, the politician claimed.

The edition writes that the Eurosceptics from the AfG stand for the lifting of the sanctions imposed against Moscow due to the annexation of Crimea.

According to Gauland, he is responsible for the foreign policy of the party in some way.

‘However, there is no such head in the anarchist party. And we are exactly the anarchist party’, he noted.

Gauland stood for the rapprochement of Germany and Russia and for the total lifting of the anti-Russian sanctions for many times. He was born in the German Democratic Republic and always stood for the strengthening of Russia as opposed to the US.
