Russia to have Citizenship Pledge and a simplified procedure for Ukrainians

Ukrainians will be able to renounce their citizenship without a certificate from Ukraine’s official institutions

State Duma of Russia adopted the bill obliging to make the Citizenship Pledge in order to obtain Russian citizenship, and simplifying the procedure for Ukrainians, according to Medusa.

404 MPs voted in favour, two abstained, no one voted against.

According to the bill, the Ukrainians willing to renounce their citizenship don’t have to present a certificate from Ukraine’s official institutions, just a copy of their claim to renounce the citizenship.

Duma also proposed Ukrainians to renounce their citizenship publically.
