“As for my son… Unlike many other politicians, he won honestly and decisively in his respective electoral district and thus joined the Parliament. Are there any such cases in the European or international policy? I met with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, the son of former Prime Minister of this country. I met with Japanese Prime Minister Abe, the son of ex-Prime Minister of Japan. I can continue and name more examples. But I’ve got some nice news for you; my son has no intentions of being either Prime Minister or President. I’m not even sure he wants to be re-elected as an MP. But he’s a grown man – responsible and a person who can take care of himself”, Poroshenko said during the press conference broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.
Olexiy Poroshenko is the President’s elder son. Born in 1985, he graduated from Taras Shevchenko’s Kyiv National University. He evolved as a young businessman while working in a number of companies, including his father’s company Roshen. Olexiy Poroshenko won the election in his district in Vinnytsia region, central Ukraine, and joined the current line-up of the Parliament in October 2014.
