Leaders of Ukraine and US discussed conflict escalation and worsening of humanitarian situation in Avdiivka

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko spoke with the US President Donald Trump over the phone, according to Svyatoslav Tsegolko, press secretary of Ukrainian head of state.

Petro Poroshenko congratulated his colleague on inauguration and called for enhanced dialogue with the new American administration on all levels.

Interlocutors discussed the issues of strategic partnership between Ukraine and the US. Particular attention was paid to the settlement in Donbas and reaching peace in political and diplomatic way.

The sides expressed deep concern due to escalation and worsening of humanitarian situation in Avdiivka. They stressed vital need to resume full ceasefire. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko thanked White House chief for staunch support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Petro Poroshenko spoke in favor of enhanced economic ties, saying he would help create jobs and rise of welfare of both countries.

They also discussed the upcoming visit of Petro Poroshenko to Washington during the conversation, which will be preceded by the visit of Ukrainian Foreign Minister in order to prepare the meeting.
