Polish Sejm voted for a resolution to recognize the events that took place in Volyn in 1943-45 "a genocide committed against the people of the Republic of Rzeczpospolita by the Ukrainian nationalists". It is reported by the press service of the Sejm of the Polish Republic.
July 11th is declared the National Day of Remembrance for the victims of genocide.
432 deputies voted for the document, noone voted against.
The only amendment that the Polish MPs introduced during the discussion of the draft resolution was the deletion of the word "fratricidal" from the document to describe the crimes committed in Volyn region.
Previously, a number of Ukrainian experts and politicians have stated that this decision may lead to worsening of relations between Ukraine and Poland.
