200 Ukrainians from Kyiv and other regions, who participated in Maidan faced llegal persecution, stated Serhiy Horbaiuk, the head of the Special Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office, during a briefing.

"As established by the investigators, the force and violence could not stop the peaceful actions; the former leadership of the state and law enforcement agencies could not suppress these protests. Tha it why the mode of action had been modified. And it was decided to appeal to the legislation, but in its grossly distorting meaning. The state police began a hunt for protesters for the purpose of intimidation. It was illegal starting of criminal proceedings and unlawful detention. Illegal criminal prosecution and arrests of the protesters. Totally in Kyiv and other regions more than 200 protesters had been subjected to such harassment," said Horbaiuk.

"Another manifestation of attempts to stop the protest action was prosecution of Automaidan movement. Beating of Automaidan activists, damaging their vehicles and illegal bringing to administrative responsibility. The results of the investigation show that it was not a separate activity of individual policemen. These were systemic directors of the Department of Traffic Police, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and individual judges and coordinated by the president's administration. According to the preliminary results of an investigation, the court has sent indictments to 40 people already: 38 police officers and 2 judges," added the head of the Special Investigation Department.
