US President Barack Obama warned President-elect Donald Trump that the revision of the policy of "one China" may lead to serious consequences in relations with Beijing.

Obama said this at the final press conference, Reuters reports.

The US President said that the idea of one China is fundamental in Chinese national concept and Taiwan issue is extremely sensitive for Beijing.

Earlier, China announced a diplomatic protest due to the 10-minute phone conversation the president-elect Donald Trump with the president of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen. As reported, the conversation at this level occurred for the first time since 1979, since the introduction of Jimmy Carter’s policy principle of "one China." According to him, Taiwan is only recognized as a part of China.

Trump argued that the conversation took place because Tsai Ing-wen called to congratulate him on his victory in the election. The speaker of the Taiwan administration noted that the parties had an arrangement beforehand.
