Barack Obama will deliver his goodbye speech as the U.S. president on Tuesday night, January 10. The solemn event is to take place at 9 p.m (5 a.m. Kyiv time), the White House’s press service reports.

According to Josh Earnest, the White House press secretary, Obama worked hard on his speech, ‘writing out parts of it longhand, dictating passages to speechwriters and then revising’. ’The president committed to delivering a forward-looking speech that will examine briefly the significant progress that our country has made in the last eight years. But it will take a closer look at — and spend more time talking about — what the president believes is necessary for us to confront the challenges that lie ahead,’ the spokesman said as quoted by USA Today.

It is a custom for the U.S. presidents to deliver goodbye speeches, which are traced back to the days of George Washington. Thus, the politicians sum up their achievements and share views on the future of their country.
