The US President Barack Obama urged not to wait for the worst from the newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump. This was reported by Reuters.

"My main message to you ... and I send this message to Europe: do not only assume the worst," Obama said.

Obama tried to refute concerns, promising to provide a smooth transition of power and expressed optimism that the president-elect will move away from the provocative campaign rhetoric, when faced with the realities of the work.

"It's not always the same how the man leads the campaign, and how he then leads the country," Obama said.

Obama explained that he does not expect major changes in US foreign policy towards Latin America. In his opinion, the best way to protect American interests is to maintain good relations with neighboring states.
