Latvian Foreign Ministry urges Russia to refrain from escalation in Crimea

The two officials discussed the latest developments in Crimea.

Edgars Rinkēvičs confirmed Latvia’s unwavering support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and expressed concern about the developments in the Crimean Peninsula, illegally annexed by Russia. The Latvian Foreign Minister condemned the rejection expressed by Russia of the negotiations in the Normandy format, which is the only internationally supported negotiation mechanism currently in force for the conflict settlement in the east of Ukraine, reads the statement at the ministry’s website.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin tweeted that we expressed his gratitude for Latvia’s ‘strong support and resolute stance on another Russia’s provocation’.
