Israel decided to cut funding in the United Nations on $ 6 million as a protest sign against the Security Council resolution condemning the construction of Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territory, Agence France-Presse reported.

The agency notes that the annual contribution of Israel to the United Nations amounts to $ 40 million. The government has reduced funding equal to the amount of funds provided by the United Nations to four committees dealing with Palestinian issues.

The representative of Israel to the UN Danny Danon said it is "unreasonable" for Israel to fund bodies that operate against the country at the UN.

The Agency reminded that "the cut in funding is the first in a series of retaliatory measures that the Israeli mission said would be taken at the United Nations after the new US administration takes office."
