Deputy Speaker of Ukrainian Parliament says government should take more active steps to protect Ukrainian citizens at the international arena

10 Ukrainian citizens are being imprisoned in Russia; another 109 people are currently being held captive by Russia-backed mercenaries in Donbas. Iryna Gherashchenko, the Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament and Ukraine’s representative in the humanitarian subgroup of Minsk Trilateral Group.  

According to her, during negotiations in Minsk, the militants persuade the rest of negotiators that there’s direct connection between releasing hostages and submitting amendments to the Ukrainian constitution that foresee the ‘special governing status’ of Donbas. Besides, the official added that Ukrainian government should take more active steps to protect its citizens at the international arena – particularly, in the international courts.
