Germany: US new anti-Russian sanctions are "more than problematic"

Sigmar Gabriel, German Foreign Minister, criticized the US for refusing to cooperate on Russia issues

The new US sanctions against Russia are "more than problematic", German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said, according to Reuters.

He criticized the US for refusing to cooperate with the EU on Russia issues, noting that in the past it played the ket role in influencing Moscow.

Gabriel believes, that by this law the US “are pursuing economic interests and we think that's not acceptable".

The minister added that driving out Russian gas in order to sell American gas instead is “definitely not something we can accept”.

As it was reported earlier, German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy will react in case if sanctions impact country’s companies. Head of European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker also said the EU would take counter measures if the US sanctions harmed European companies involved in oil and gas projects with Russia.
