Hennadiy Afanasyev and Yuriy Soloshenko, detained in Russia, will probably return to Ukraine later today, Interfax Ukraine reports. At about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Russian special aircraft that came from Vnukovo airport in Russia landed at Gostomel airfield in northern Ukraine (flightradar24). Antonov An-26 of Ukraine’s Armed Forces left to Russia at noon.
Neither the Kremlin, nor the lawyers of detained Ukrainian citizens comment on the prospect of exchange of Afanasyev and Soloshenko on two Russian saboteurs – Evgeniy Mefedov and Andrei Sokolov, who took part in violent clashes in Odesa on May 2, 2014. Back then, pro-Ukrainian activists stood up against pro-Kremlin provocateurs in the southern-Ukrainian city. The conflict ended up with fire in the local Trade Unions House; about 50 people, most of them pro-Russian activists, perished.
