FIFA spend ₤ 80 mln to investigate corruption scandal

FIFA spent about 80 million British pounds to look into the internal corruption scandal. Daily Mail reported that with reference to the final report, released by the investigation group – U.S. and Swiss lawyers.

The investigation took 22 months; over the period, the experts looked through 2.5 million documents and interviewed key witnesses in this case. The final report, which contained over 1300 pages, was released on March 31. Gianni Infantino, FIFA president officially announced that the investigation is over.

In May 2015, several high-ranked FIFA officials were detained on charges with corruption. 14 officials were accused of getting bribes totally worth of 150 million dollars. After these arrests, the-then FIFA president Joseph Blatter resigned. In December 2015, Blatter and his successor Michel Platimi were deprived of the right to take office in any football authority for eight years. In February 2016, the term was cut down to six years.
