The informal meeting of foreign ministers of the EU countries, dedicated to the recent election of the US President, will take place on Sunday evening in Brussels at the invitation of the Head of EU diplomacy Federica Mogherini, informs Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the European External Action Service.
Last Friday, a senior European diplomat told reporters that the EU Foreign Ministers that gather in Brussels for a regular meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs on November 14 will discuss the results of the US presidential election in "a very informal way" in the course of dinner on Sunday.
"The United States is a strategic partner of great importance. We wish to continue working with it. Now we do not know the circumstances. We are trying to establish contact with the transition team of the US administration. We have already invited the President-elect in Brussels. Ms Mogherini will go to the United States, we will hear different positions of the EU ministers during dinner", the source said.
According to him, "every time after the elections in major countries like, say, the United States, there are discussions".
He explained that those informal meetings during dinner happen from time to time, and it's not the first time. "It will be an informal discussion on the issues of great importance", said the EU representative.
"Transatlantic relations are of great importance not only for foreign policy, and for the whole range of EU policies, and of course we want to continue our strong partnership with the United States", the diplomat noted.
