Canada’s federal Minister of International Trade Christine Freeland will serve as the country new Foreign Minister; the appointment took place on late January 10. CBC News reported that with a reference to its source in the Canadian government.
Freeland, the Ukrainian by origin, will replace Stephane Dion who leaves the Ministry to take another diplomatic office.
Christine Freeland is a Canadian writer, journalist, and politician. Currently, Freeland is serving as the federal Minister of International Trade. She worked in a variety of editorial positions in respected media, before announcing her intention to run for the Liberal Party nomination in the by-election to replace Bob Rae as the Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre. After winning the Liberal nomination in September 2013 she was elected to parliament in the November 2013 by-election. Appointed to the Cabinet of Canada as Minister of International Trade in November 2015, Freeland was named that month as one of Toronto's 50 most influential by Toronto Life magazine.
