Ukrainian Helsinki Union (UHHRU) initiates the creation of the Center for Human Rights Documentation. This was announced at a press conference by Executive Director Arkadiy Bushchenko, Unian reports.
"Today, we present this Center, but it does not mean that it started or will start working tomorrow, we will be developing it for many months, but now we have decided to present our ideas and developments, how we see the development of this center", he said.
According to Bushchenko, such centers have been established in many countries that have experienced conflict in their territories, particularly in Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
UHHRU Executive Director noted that the Centre should be created immediately and they should not wait for the end of the war, as the evidence disappear, and after a while it will be difficult to collect the evidence and many war criminals will escape justice.
"We can not wait, and so we decided to create this Documentation Center. We will try to combine the efforts of many organizations that provide very productive work in this field", he added.
He believes that all involved organizations should cooperate, as it is a common issue, and fragmented work complicates the documentation process. Bushchenko also said that each organization will be discussed in terms of cooperation and format.
"We will develop the Centre. There is already a certain team, and I think that this team will grow. It requires considerable effort and resources. We are also counting on public authorities that will also cooperate with the Centre in carrying out its tasks", said UHHRU Executive Director.
