A militant of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, suspected of torturing Ukrainian hostages was detained in Donetsk region by the Security Service of Ukraine.

The man joined an illegal armed group in then-occupied Slovyansk, Donetsk region, in spring 2014. He belonged to a convoy group that guarded Ukrainian military men; he mocked and tortured the hostages, which was confirmed by the witnesses.

The suspect was detained when entering Ukraine-controlled territory to apply for pension. A criminal proceeding for kidnapping and terrorism is initiated.
