Pope Francis expressed his wish to solve the difficult humanitarian situation in the Donbas region as soon as possible during the traditional meeting at the beginning of the year with the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See, reports Radio Vatican.

"I express the wish that Ukraine resolutely rushed forward in the search for real solutions to the full implementation of the commitments made by the parties, and, above all, for a quick response to the humanitarian situation, which is still difficult", he said.

As stated, during an audience in the context of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War II Pope shared his thoughts on peace and security, stressing that "in an atmosphere of general fear for the present and the uncertainty and anxiety about the future in which we are immersed," he considers it important “to consult with word of hope to indicate the further way".
