Ukraine should impose the visa regime with Russia; it is a necessity in terms of the ongoing Russian aggression and the conflict in Donbas. Olexandr Turchynov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, said this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

’My opinion is – yes, we need to impose the visa regime with Russia. Unfortunately, the Foreign Ministry so far does not support this option, as they appeal for protection of rights of our compatriots in Russia. It is true we’ve got many Ukrainians currently working in Russia as gastarbeiters. Of course, they must have faced some tough conditions, which eventually made them move to Russia. But I’d like to point out a very obvious thing: there’s a war going on with Russia now.  And we’ve got to keep under control all sorts of movement through Ukraine-Russia border. With all the respect for problems of Ukrainians in Russia, we should first of all have the state’s best interests at heart ’, Turchynov said.
