Monument to those killed in Donbas opens in Odesa

SBU noted that the officers have lost their lives in the east of Ukraine even before the official start of the anti-terrorist operation

A monument to those Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officers killed in the Donbas region was opened in Odesa on Friday. It is reported by the press service of the SBU.

The ceremony was attended by the SBU Head Vasyl Hrytsak, heads of security agencies of Odesa region, local authorities, and military personnel of the regional management of the SBU.

The mothers of killed SBU officers Andriy (Andrew) Galushenko and Gennady Bilichenko took part in the opening ceremony.

"This monument is a symbol of the souls of those hearts of young men and women who laid down their lives so that we today could live. This monument made the Odesa artist, sculptor Alexander Tokarev. It is vital that this monument to those killed in Donbas is the first in Odesa. It is extremely important that we built it on the SBU territory. We remember all those who gave their lives", he said.

Hrytsak said that the SBU is doing everything to provide all that is necessary for families of the deceased officers.

"The inscription on the stone says "With God and Ukraine in our hearts". It is the motto of all true patriots, which every day helps them to resist Russian invasion in the east of Ukraine", said Hrytsak.
