The Military prosecution of Donetsk garrison started criminal proceedings on the fact of deaths of two Ukrainian servicemen in combat position near Maryinka. The soldier died in a mine detonating, which happened due to violation of weapon handling, as the Prosecutor’s General press service informs.

The office informs that during a pre-court investigation it was established, that on August 8, at about 4:25 am in combat position near Maryinka, as a result of one soldier violating the weapon handling rules, while firing in return to militant attacks, a mine detonated in the barrel of 2C12 mortar “Sani”.

At the moment, ballistic and explosion expertise on the 2C12 in question is being conducted, the witnesses are being questioned.

The preliminary version is that the explosion happened as the barrel of the mortar was loaded twice. The military prosecution started criminal proceedings under part 3 Article 414 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of rules related to handling of weapons, and also substances and objects of increased danger to the surroundings where it caused death to several persons or any other grave consequences).

As it was reported earlier, one weapons unit exploded in Mariinka, where Ukrainian servicemen were forced to open fire in response, killing two Ukrainian soldiers.
