German journalists found out that in occupied Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts a system of forced-labour camps for prisoners operates, as Deutschlandfunk informs.

Human rights defenders say that thousands of prisoners in DNR-LNR camps are forced into unpaid labour, and the militia gets up to 500,000 euro revenue in a month to use it in their interests.

Journalists and human rights defenders estimate that up to 10,000 people may be working in these forced-labour camps in Donbas, including those who were convicted before the occupation in spring 2014. Many of them in these three years of conflict should have been released or pardoned under the Ukrainian law.

The local militia “government” refused to comment on the issue.
