Ceasefire in Donbas came into force for the period of Christmas and New Year holidays from 12 midnight on December 24 in accordance with the agreement reached at the contact group meeting in Minsk.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko expressed hope that the introduction of the "silence regime" in Donbas will acquire a permanent nature.

"I welcome the achievement in the framework of the Trilateral Contact Group, in response to my initiative, an agreement on the implementation of additional measures for the establishment of a permanent and perpetual regime of comprehensive ceasefire, starting at 12 midnight December 24, 2016. I hope that due to these measures, which will be implemented on the eve of New Year and Christmas holidays, the ceasefire in Donbas will acquire permanent nature," President said.

According to him, Ukraine confirms its readiness to carry out this and other Minsk agreements.

At the same time reports from the front speak of the tense situation on the Svitlodarsk bulge.
