The steel mill in Alchevsk, one of the largest metallurgy enterprises in Ukraine, stopped working because of the ongoing railway blockade in Donbas.
‘The reason is that they keep blocking the railroad, which leads to shortage of raw iron supplied by the mining and processing plant of Metinvest group,’ the mill’s administration said.
On February 12, 4.5 tons of cast iron were melted; the day after that, the works stopped. The administration found it hard to say when they will be able to get back to work.
As 112 International reported, in January, veterans of the Donbas conflict and civilian volunteers blocked the railway in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, aiming to cease the trade between the entrepreneurs from the government-held territory of Ukraine and those of the self-styled 'People's Republics' in the easternmost regions of the country.
