‘We made a deal that our cooperation program will be surely prolonged as Canada provides assistance in creating a new, modern professional Ukrainian army. I’m grateful to the Canadian government for assistance in such important area as the military and technical cooperation. The professional army is the first outpost when it comes to protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Canadian military instructors should stay in Ukraine until March 2017, as I asked the Prime Minister to extend this mission’, said Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko during his joint briefing with Canadian leader Justin Trudeau.
In January 2016, Canadian military instructors came to Ukraine to train their Ukrainian counterparts in the frameworks of an intergovernmental agreement. The training is supposed to improve command of troops and level of interaction among various units and services of Ukraine's Armed Forces.
