Poroshenko: Army needs modern artillery systems

The President visited a military base and presented new weapon systems for the Armed Forces

“We’ve got to strengthen our defenses, actively using modern artillery systems. For the past two years, artillery, often referred to as the god of war, has been proving its decisive role in securing Ukraine’s victory. Artillery intelligence should be able to follow the movement of enemy tanks, armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles and sabotage groups; to locate their coordinates to destroy the targets. Nevertheless, there are certain problems in this area”, the President said.

“First. Our troops lack modern radar stations and laser telemeters, as well as nightvision devices with telemeters. Many of those devices that are already there are malfunctioning. Second, we still don’t have enough software for effective gun control to be uploaded on tablets and handheld PCs. Third, the artillery intelligence has no drones, which is a huge trouble. And, finally, the artillery units need modern means of long-range counter-battery suppression – of both domestic and foreign production”, the Head of the state noted, adding that the Armed Forces also need more high-precision munitions.
