India train crash: More than 100 killed in derailment

Tragedy occurred near Kanpur

100 passengers were killed and more than 200 injured in the worst train accident in recent years. This was reported by BBC with reference to the local police.

About 30 ambulances arrived at the site of the incident.

Rescuers are still trying to reach the injured and recover the dead from the twisted carriages.

The cause of the crash has not been clarified yet.

However, the Times of India claims a fracture in the track could be the cause of the crash quoting sources.

One of the survived passengers told the publication that the train was moving at a normal speed and stopped instantly.

The number of victims may rise.

The Government of India announced the immediate commencement of the investigation of the incident and promised to pay compensation to the families of the victims.

The train derailed on its way from Patna to Indore. The tragedy occurred near the Kanpur village.
