The match between Ukraine and Iceland has demonstrated what will become our team led by Andriy Shevchenko and his international company.
To be honest, not so many aspects have changed dramatically in contrast to the team of Fomenko. Ukraine is a team with a relatively strong flanks, a good defense, and a good goalkeeper. But some new thoughts about our team still visited my head while watching the match.
When Shevchenko applied for a game with the national team of Iceland, many people were surprised by the presence of a large number of young players in Ukraine’s team. All Ukraine’s promising young players are successful when young. However, when growing up, they do not step over then to the next level.
Nevertheless, the situation with Kovalenko and Zinchenko started to change. And the others began to catch up with them. Butko used to bee a good defender yet in 2012. But Sobol became a real “revelation” of the match. His game as a defender is relatively weak, but in the selection against the powerful Icelanders, he showed himself as a worthy player. And this is encouraging.
Have you noticed that Ukrainian team has performed an incredibly small amount of innings? Exactly. This is a sign that Yarmolenko, Butko, Sobol, and Konoplianka, who played on the wing, realized that they should avoid the overarm pitches. And they do did it.
Yaroslav Rakitskiy has called all the shots in our team. He led the entire movement of the Ukrainian team. It was after his blow Yarmolenko kicked a goal. It was he who cut the defense and passed the ball to Kovalenko. When playing the first number, Shakhtar’s centre back became its “band-master.” In general, he is good in playing this role.
Yevhen Konoplyanka. He has several strong points, and one of them is the speed. But he did not use it during the game.
There was a feeling that Yevhen came to the national team after a grueling season, but he played not so much. And missed penalties only confirmed the bad shape of our midfield.
When it became officially known that Andriy Shevchenko to replace Fomenko as a coach, the attitude was very skeptical. But typing class headquarters, Shevchenko got the opportunity to create something new from scratch. And here the fun began.
At Euro 2016, Ukrainian team was a sort of a symbiosis of successful and experienced players. Perhaps it was also the cause of the failure. The team captain Ruslan Rotan did not show up at the start. And it should be assumed that in the selection of the World Cup Ruslan will play very little. For a simple reason: by 2018, when they host the world championship, he will be 36 years old, what might indicate the end of the midfield’s career. The same applies to Fedetskiy, Shevchuk, Kucher, and others. So, we need to train some other players and put them into these positions.
