Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is not only a legislative house. Quite often it becomes the boxing ring for the deputies. People’s deputies, dressed in brand, ironed suits, at the plenary sessions love to show not only their eloquence, but the intensity of emotions. After the recent brawl we decided to recall the most spectacular battles of Ukrainian politicians.
So, 112 International brought together the strongest, brightest, scandalous and spectacular battles of Ukrainian MPs during the work of the new reformist parliament and also identified the main fighters.
Remember how it all began
Let's start from the beginning ... on November 27th, 2015 Parliament set to work. New MPs with happy smiles examined their workplaces in the session hall. It seemed that everything looks quite "European": elections were fair, and now there are just "ordinary people" in the parliament. However, on December 4th speaker of parliament Volodymyr Groysman and all Ukrainians have seen that the discipline among the people's representatives, to put it mildly, is not very "European".
The instigator the first post-revolutionary parliament brawl became Volodymyr Parasyuk, one of the Maidan’s commanders. The reason for the brawl was that Volodymyr Groysman, reporting on voting, has not announced proposals to remove some heads of parliamentary committees from their leadership positions. After that MPs from Maidan began to protest.
On December 25th scandalous MP Lyashko accused the deputy from "Opposition bloc" Nestor Shufrych in an attempt to bribe him with $ 3 million before the election in 2012. Shufrych denied the accusations and hinted that, on the contrary, such proposals came from Lyashko. And the battle started!
Fortunately, there were no casualties. In turn, Groysman spoke to People's Deputies, trying to calm them: "Colleagues, today is Christmas Day, have a fear of God! Dear friends, today’s Christmas. Please, finish the brawl, sit down, keep working!”
A week later Groysman after another brawl offered deputies to open the gym in parliament for their workouts.
"We started talking, someone started to push me, and then hit" ...
A big surprise for the new Parliament became MP from the faction "Samopomich" Yegor Sobolev , who seemed to be adequate and quite harmless. He started the bloodshed with the People's Deputy from "Batkivshchyna" party Vadym Ivchenko. The fight took place first in the session hall, and then - in the lobbies of the parliament. As a result of brawl Sobolev and Ivchenko have their faces smashed. Deputies have been calmed down with the guards. The incident happened on February 12th. According to Yegor, a fight occurred because of one of the bills and harassment in the press. [Watch form 00:32]
On March 3rd deputies fought two times in the parliament. Deputies jumped through the ranks, pulled each other's jackets. Then during a fight blood was spilled ... With a broken head that day turned up Andriy Lozovyi, the MP from the Radical Party. After such a bloody incident Verkhovna Rada agreed on a number of decisions on measures to avoid fights in parliament. And Speaker Volodymyr Groysman had to adjourn the meeting. However, the male character is not so easy to calm down, so MPs like rolling stones found themselves in the lobbies, where they broke the press point.
No month without fighting
In a wonderful warm day on April 22 in the plenary session there was another scuffle, this time with the use of crutches. People's Deputy from "radicals" Andriy Lozovyi on crutches ran to the deputy of the "Bloc of Petro Poroshenko," Anatoly Matviyenko, who noted equality before the law for all, including deputies of the Radical Party, and said that they shouldn’t have any preferences. People's representatives started to push, but this misunderstanding lasted less than a minute.
In next scandal Head of Radical Party Lyashko threw down the gauntlet to Sergiy Dunayev from “Opposition bloc”. On May 14th main "radical" demanded to remove parliamentary immunity from Dunayev for treason; this was followed by verbal skirmish, which escalated into a brawl. Other MPs tried to keep calm both rivals.
On July 14th "radical" Igor Mosiychuk could not calm down his ardor. During consideration of the bill on amendments to the law enforcement Mosiychuk appealed to the MP from the "Bloc of Petro Poroshenko," Yuriy Lutsenko, critisized him and advised to drink less alcohol. After that there was a fight started at the Verkhovna Rada. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
After this incident, the fantasy of speaker Groysman has gone further, and he proposed the introduction of bailiffs to resolve such situations.
So, remembering the most vivid and bloody fights of the Verkhovna Rada of the 8th convocation, the titles of "the most dangerous fighter” go to Parasyuk and Lyashko. Besides the fact that they do not protect their jaws and teeth, they do not allow us to get bored of the tedious process of lawmaking.
