Biden’s list: not only MP Martynenko to remain without mandate
Joe Biden carries to Kiev a list of "downed pilots," which mustn’t be in the Ukrainian parliament according to Washington
Joe Biden: For you, you, and you, it’s time to leave!
MP from Narodnyy front fraction Mykola Martynenko reported the resignation of deputy’s mandate. In a live television broadcast of one of the political talk show one of the closest associates of the Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and financial donors to his campaign, a business partner of the former head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration Igor Kolomoisky has asked the parliament to vote for a draft resolution on the early termination of his authority as soon as possible. However, according to 112.ua sources, Mykola Martynenko’s decision on the resignation of the mandate was not voluntary.
The statement of resignation of deputy mandate Martynenko was made on the last autumn day of the current year on the air of a political talk show on ICTV. He explained his decision by a large-scale discredit campaign.
"I take the decision of resignation of deputy mandate and voluntarily reject the parliamentary immunity. Therefore, I ask and appeal to (the Speaker of Verkhovna Rada, - 112.ua) Volodymyr Groisman, to the regulation committee, to all the deputies to vote for this decision on the following plenary week ", - Mykola Martynenko said.
Martynenko is a long-term head of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and unofficially is said that he takes care of Energoatom. In this regard, he has been accused of corruption by the ex-head of the State Financial Inspection Mykola Gordienko.
The closest ally of Yatsenyuk is Mykola Martynenko that by all means prevented the audit of Energoatom. All the deputies and all the heads of state know that Martynenko, is a head of corruption in Energoatom. Now check of Energoatom is closed” - said Gordienko. In addition, the ex-official has accused the deputy in sale to the Russian company TVEL a number of components at low prices. However, statements by the former head of State Financial Inspection didn’t have any results.
Martynenko, and another soldier that was interrogated previously – Andriy Ivanchuk
Most probably, the letter of resignation of the mandate resulted from the fact that the Swiss prosecutor's office actively interested in the prime minister’s Arseniy Yatsenyuk collaborator. Law enforcement officers of this country investigate a criminal bribery case in a large scale from a number of companies supplying equipment for nuclear power plants. Mykola Martynenko himself does not deny the fact of the investigation and suggests that it is prolonged, and has no result so far. In turn, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk in the summer in an interview to the media named the scandal surrounding Martynenko as political, but added that will lead to the Prosecutor General any of the companions who "is convicted of corruption."
Prospects for the mandate deprivation
According to 112.ua sources in the presidential administration, the United States insist on a voluntary-compulsory mandate refusal. Indirectly, this confirms the statement of the US Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, in which he welcomed the decision of the deputy.
"Mykola Martynenko’s decision to leave Parliament, to obey to the rule of law is another sign of changing Ukraine. Public officials must be accountable to the people they serve. There is no place for corruption, nepotism," - reported Pyatt.
Saakashvili has a hand in Martynenko’s resignation
In addition, the investigation against Martynenko in Switzerland became known for a long time ago, but the announcement was made on the eve of a visit to Kyiv by the US Vice President Joe Biden. 112.ua sources in parliament say that Martynenko can be followed by representatives of other political camps.
"The US has a list of people in the entourage of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Kolomoisky, and Yatsenyuk, which, according to official Washington, should be out of Ukrainian politics. Martynenko is among them. It is almost downed pilot. The list will bring to Kyiv Vice-President Joe Biden during his visit, "- informed the source.
However, our sources notice that Martynenko has chances to keep the mandate.
"Martynenko went for it (declaration of early termination of parliamentary mandate, - 112.ua) at the request of the Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk in connection with the forthcoming visit to Ukraine by the US Vice President Joe Biden, who is known to take place on December 7. However, Yatsenyuk tries to ride out the storm and keep it in Parliament and in the future ", - says the source.
Verkhovna Rada expects blamestorming
Meanwhile, the coalition’s views regarding Martynenko’s resignation divided. Thus, the MP from the Batkivshchyna, Serhiy Vlasenko, said that associate Yatsenyuk is "an experienced political staffer," and adds that, since the vote is pre-scheduled on December 10, that is, after the visit of the US Vice President Joe Biden, the votes may not be enough. Deputy recalls that, in spite of the submitted application, for example, Zlata Ognevich still a people's deputy.
Victoria Voytsitskaya, the MP from the Samopomich fractiuon agrees to that. She recalled that the voting on the Martynenko’s request held the day before the government's report and does not believe in such a coincidence.
In turn, MP from the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko, Mustafa Nayem, is sure that there will be 226 votes in the Parliament 226 for early termination Mykola Martynenko’s mandate.
"There will be voices, it’ won’t take a long time", - he wrote on his page on a social network.
In any case, the Parliament starts its plenary work December 8 and the vote on early termination of Mykola Martynenko’s mandate is the scheduled for December 10. Before that, under the rules, it should be considered by the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada, which is actually headed by another "soldier" Pavlo Pynzenyk. He, in turn, is accused of delaying of the resonant issues consideration when necessary.
